Inside the Teacher USA experience.
Teacher USA is a classroom cultural exchange program for qualified Filipino educators. Selected teachers take on a full-time, teacher-of-record role at an accredited U.S. primary or secondary school for a base period of one-to-three years, with the option to extend in one- or two-year increments up to a total of five.
This is one of the most involved BridgeUSA categories, and one of the most rewarding: alongside your regular teaching load, you'll complete an annual cultural activity component, sharing a piece of Filipino life with your school and community, and connecting your American classroom with students back home. Many participants describe it as a genuine two-way education — for their students and for themselves.
Because the commitment is significant, HRI's support runs deep here too: from confirming your credentials and English proficiency ahead of your embassy interview, to staying in touch throughout your assignment and helping you plan the required two-year home-country stay before any future exchange participation.
What HRI generally looks for.
Every case is reviewed individually with an HRI Account Coordinator — this is a starting guide, not a guarantee.
- A degree equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree in education or your teaching subject
- At least two years (24 months) of related teaching experience in primary and secondary
- Currently teaching, or otherwise meeting your target U.S. state's certification standards
- Seeking a full-time, teacher-of-record role at an accredited primary or secondary school
- Strong English proficiency for full-time classroom instruction
